A Beautiful Dark by:Jocelyn Davies

Publisher: Harper Teen
Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 390 pages
Series: A Beautiful Dark #1
On the night of Skye's seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites;like fire and ice;Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye's life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.
In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can't help falling for, and Devin, who she can't stay away from, the consequences of Skye's choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine. -quoted from Goodreads

My feelings for A Beautiful Dark are a bit confusing. At times I liked this book but, then I also didn't. The beginning and part of the end was a little slow, but the middle was action packed!!! The characters are all likable--especially the two good lookin' guardian angels Devin and Asher(: The main character though, could be improved, I just never liked how Skye was constantly confused and doubting herself. I think the book A Beautiful Dark would have been a lot better if Skye was shown more independent and confident.

There is nothing bad about this novel, and I wasn't at all bored while reading it. A Beautiful dark was quite interesting. It had a great back story which would have made this book tremendously better if there had been more of an emphasis on it. I guess I had just expected the two guardian angels to be something new in the paranormal world. I just wish A Beautiful Dark had been more Skye learning to control her powers and figuring out what she is than deciding which boy is more attractive.

Though this book is nowhere close to being boring, it isn't something that readers have not already seen. I would not recommend this book if you want something fresh and new.

"And in the morning, the window was closed. A feather rested on the floor beneath it, the only reminder that I'd woken up in the night at all. In the shadows, I couldn't tell if it was light--or dark"

“You don't have a heartbeat," I realized.
"Does that bother you?" He asked.
"No." I thought for a minute. "As long as you can feel things and care about things."
"It's a misconception that you need a heart to love," Asher whispered into my hair.”

“No, I mean why are you here? You just happen to be at the same place I am? The girl who believes in coincidence always ends up dead, Devin.”

  1. I had exactly the same feelings. I didn't hate the book, but I also didn't love it. There were too many things I would like to see different, but overal, I quite enjoyed myself. I have a review about this book, perhaps you should check it out if you like ^^

  2. Oh my goodness I'm loving how Asher and Devin sound, oh so swoon-worthy! Aw that sucks the ending and some of the beginning are slow and the main character was always second guessing herself, but that it's something totally different makes me want to read it, well okay and the two hot boys lol!
Definitely adding to my TBR pile now, thank you! :)
